The eMedia My Violin Kit is Perfect for Beginners

Introducing the all-in-one eMedia My Violin Kit. This kit is perfect for beginners, it contains everything you need to play the violin: a quality violin with bow and carrying case, plus rosin and cloth. What's more, it includes a great teacher--the new award-winning eMedia My Violin CD-ROM (for Windows & Mac computers).

The eMedia My Violin Kit Teaches with Videos and Live Recordings

The eMedia My Violin interactive educational software is what sets this violin kit apart from all the others. An animated character named Val the Violin guides students through over 160 lessons, teaching them the core elements of violin playing. Authored and demonstrated by professional violinist Sabina Skalar, M.M., the method is great for kids and everyone young at heart.
eMedia My Violin teaches with the help of videos and live recordings of songs. An animated fingerboard shows correct placement for fingers as the music plays, and MIDI tracks let you adjust the speed. My Violin's revolutionary new Finger Tracker actually listens to your violin playing and shows whether your fingers are placed correctly, and how to adjust them. Colorful MIDI accompaniments make practicing fun.

Additional valuable software tools such as an automatic tuner, metronome and digital recorder are also included.

eMedia My Violin first covers such basics as proper violin, hand and finger position, the elements of correct bowing technique, how to tune the instrument, and play rhythmic tunes. It continues on with popular songs and an introduction to reading music notation. All throughout, it is interspersed with interactive games that make learning fun and easy.

Learn More About the eMedia Violin

The instrument itself has a spruce top with maple back and sides. Other parts are of dyed hardwood with a metal alloy four tuner tailpiece. The violin has been meticulously set-up and packed in a protective cloth. The bridge is in place, the strings are loosened for shipping. The bow is made of wood, and rosin for the bow is included. The sturdy carrying case has light foam padding as well as a handle and shoulder strap.

The violin comes in 3 different sizes to accommodate various ages: 1/8 size (usually for ages 5-6), 1/4 size (usually for ages 7-8) and 4/4 full size (usually for ages 12 & up through adult).

Had I not thrown away the box and labels I would have returned it. My sons music teacher said it was a waste of money and my son is not happy with it as the sound is terrible compared to the other kids Violins in the class.

4 out of 5 stars Great for a beginner of any age   January 17, 2010

Great for beginners of any age. Packaged well. Received in perfect condition. The only thing is is that it would have been nice to have included some easy sheet music. Purchased for my husband that wanted to learn to play it. He was very happy to receive this as a Christmas gift.

1 out of 5 stars Garbage   December 31, 2009

One of my children got this for Christmas and the other got the eMedia guitar. They are both complete garbage and are being sent back. The violin strings would not tighten and the little wooden piece that is supposed to hold them up won't stay in place. This makes the thing impossible to tune or play. It won't even make a sound. The guitar is also junk, as playing it for even a minute or two pulls it out of tune. If this was a $5 plastic toy, then I would overlook the fact that it's not playable, but it is advertised as an instrument, which it is not. The silver lining in this story is that amazon is very friendly and easy to deal with about defective returns.

5 out of 5 stars Good Value   December 28, 2009

I received this for Christmas. I wanted to start with something inexpensive, just to see if I would like it. I've played around with recorders and flutes and thought I'd try strings. I'm now into Bluegrass and the flutes just don't cut it! Anyway, just two days and I can run the scale without driving my lovely wife to drinking! I thought I may have trouble with my sausage size fingers, but they are fitting well. The software is for kids. I really wish it had something for adults. Like the other review, my kit was missing the cloth. Big deal! It's still a great deal.
