4 out of 5 stars Exactly as Expected   December 24, 2009

I have always wanted to learn how to play the violin. Unfortunately, there are a lot of things that I've always wanted to do, and I was worried that the violin would be one of the ones that I didn't want to do forever. So when I decided to get a cheap violin to test this out, I wanted to know exactly what I was going to get -- and get it I did.

This isn't the most handsome violin, nor are the strings of a particularly high quality. I had trouble keeping it tuned when I first got it, the bridge doesn't fit perfectly, and I had to spend over two hours trying to get enough rosin on the bow. I was rather pleased to find out that I wouldn't have to string it myself.

I expected all of this from reading these reviews.

I have been playing my violin for two days now. I have not had any trouble keeping it tuned since the first day (the strings are of low quality, so they had to stretch a little first before they would stop making the pegs spin). In fact, I took it out on a frigid night and fooled with it a bit, brought it back home and found that it was still in tune despite me having romped around with it.

Obviously this isn't the best violin in the world, but that is why I have it, because I am not the best violinist in the world. Maybe, when I start to sound a little better, I will upgrade the strings, buy a proper bow, et cetera, but for now I am content.

Also, my rosin came in one piece, not crumbled as many other people have said. I don't know if this was just me.

1 out of 5 stars Chinese violins   September 1, 2009

These cheap Chinese made violins look OK opening the box, but they're strictly beginner's material. My daughters needed to upgrade after 1 year, and the supposedly higher-grade models are absolutely no better.

The other reviews I read here look suspicious -- seller or manufacturer padding??

Take your chances on one of these if you want, but read the return policy VERY carefully.

4 out of 5 stars did i get ripped off?   January 5, 2009

ok so i ordered this a long time ago.. but i JUST now discovered that i think i got the wrong item.. there are big differences in my item.. in the inside of the violin it says "Oppela" instead of "Cecilio" the case is BLUE same with the inside and the accessories it comes with are different as well. the rosin loks completely different and is in a square shape. also instead of the chin rest and other things being black, mine is brown. everything looked alot more cheaper than the pictures. did i get ripped off? did anyone else get this item like this? plz help! i dont know wether to put 1 star bcus im still ok with the item i got.. tho im not sure its the right one

1 out of 5 stars Horrible Violin   November 3, 2008

As a violin player for most of my life I consider this the worst violin I've ever used. If i was able to give it 0 stars I would. I bought this violin just need up my skills for a little while because my violin was too expensive too ship from another country. After receiving this violin it had many many problems. the strings are too close to the finger board you aren't able to play any notes without the notes sounding horrible. The bridge doesn't totally touch the violin base, so you aren't able to even play the right notes when you actually are. The neck wasn't straight and the area where the string was connected to the pecks was too narrow, so you aren't able to even tune the string right without untuning the other strings. The wood on the bow wasn't straight, there were a lot of horse hairs missing, you couldn't even tighten the bow without a lot of force and worst of all the string are too close to each other so when you are playing one string you automatically touch another one. Play a song is impossible to sound. My opinion, if you still want to get this violin be prepared to spend an extra 100 dollars fixing all the problem. Plus, you won't even be able to play anything with it.
