Wasn't the smartest investment I have ever made however it's a good conversation piece. It took longer to arrive than what estimated. The product is exactly what it says it is.. Its very light which is good but at the same time feels kinda cheap.

I was quite happy with this instrument. Of course it needed a little preparation after unpacking it; one needs to install the bridge provided (a very simple operation) and tune it up, and prepare the bow with rosin (also provided). I decided to deepen the notches in the bridge; easily done with a razorblade. And I didn't care for the shoulder rest provided, so I simply removed it using a precision philips screwdriver. Peg drops are needed to help it retain it's tuning. After installing the 9V battery provided it plays and sounds perfectly fine. A sheet of very helpful instructions for preparing the violin are provided. Of course it lacks the subtle resonance of an acoustic instrument, but that's to be expected of a solid-body electric instrument. At the price, this is a superb bargain for a violinist wanting to play in an amplified group. I bought a $30 reverb pedal to help give the instrument some resonance, and it sounds just great. Some reviewers complain that only the E string has a fine-tuner, but that's the way professional-grade concert instruments are set up as well. So what are you waiting for? Looking for an electric violin for your band or to play and/or record for yourself? Look no further.

It's not the best violin in the world, but it's excellent for a learner. I've played guitar, bass guitar, cello, and viola for almost 20 years now, and I picked this up to teach myself violin.
Pros: Not too heavy, built-in headphone jack, amp jack, tone/volume controls, comes with everything you need except the amp. The bow is surprisingly nice for something included in a "set" deal.
Cons: There's really only one "Con" here... The default bridge is REALLY bad. It has very little curvature, putting the G string at almost the same height as D and A, with E only a tiny bit lower.
I followed the advice of several other reviewers here and picked up a Glaesel 4/4 Violin Bridge, Medium at the same time I ordered the violin. That was an easy decision, as I'm already using a Glaesel bridge on my cello, so I knew it would be good. I tested the default bridge at first, and it was awful. The margin of error for bow position on the D string was about a micron across. After replacing it with the Glaesel, it's perfect.

As soon as you decide to buy this violin. Remember it will not play right out of the box. You have to work on it.
Buy these stuff:
Peg drop - the peg will slide a lot, this "peg drop" solution will keep the pegs in place.
3 fine tuning knots.
A bridge - The bridge will give you a really hard time setting up and playing because there's no groove marking, and the curve is not quite right.
BUY ROSIN (definitely have to) - this will change the instrument from "no sound" to "playing"
The rosin that comes with the violin is too hard, you can't possibly get any rosin on your bow with it. Even if you sand the surface before rosin your bow, the bow will still slip on the string a lot. Get a proper piece of rosin, and rosin your bow nicely on the first play.

Compare to a cheapy acoustic violin:
Pros:
Since it's electric, you can pretty much set up everything yourself without visiting a luthier (you dont have to worry about sound post collapse and stuff..)
Cons:
Resting this piece of hard plastic on your shoulder hurts, and it slip a lot.
It looks kool, but reality is, it's 100% plastic from peg to tail, some part of it looks very sketchy (for example, through the battery holder, you can actually see the electric wires run inside the hollow plastic.On mine, I had to duct tape my battery to the violin because I cant close the battery holder lid when I insert a 9v battery)
Final word, for those who thinks this electric violin is silent: No it's not. The volume of the violin without amp is about as much as that of a harmonica at full blow. The sound comes from the string. You probably dont want to play your electric violin late at night.

It sounds really odd when plugged in, you're probably better off getting one to attach to the bridge. The headphones are incredibly low-quality, mine buzzes on the right side and I've only used it a few times. After several alterations, I really like this instrument. I'd recommend it to anyone trying violin for the first time, but probably not to a more seasoned player.
