Here are some hints to help keep your violin in tune:
1. Although the violins come with a bridge, it is not installed. Installing a bridge should not be too difficult, but if you have a problem, please email us. The bridge has to be installed for the violin to play correctly.
2. Strings do tend to slip and lose their tune on a new violin because they need to stretch. If this happens, just give it time. This does NOT mean that the violin is defective. The strings just need time to settle in.
3. If the violin pegs keep slipping, try to push the peg in while turning it. If they still dont say in, peg drops are available at most music stores. They are relatively inexpensive and should help the pegs stay in.
4. If a strand of hair breaks on the bow, take a pair of nail clippers and cut it from the frog (bottom of the bow) or the top of the bow. A few hairs are bound to fall out with play. Remember to rub a little rosin (included) on the bow before playing.

Great decor, plays decently June 28, 2010 Anonymous The black finish on it looks great. I'm just surprised it's even painted because a case alone can easily be $60. You can prop it up on a shelf or something and it looks fabulous, not to mention it actually plays. You get exactly what you pay for not to mention a case and strap to carry the case by. The inside of the case was a little sawdusty but nothing vacuuming can't fix.
Pros: It plays, comes with a bow and everything you need, inexpensive, great decor, nice finish
Cons: Nothing much, considering the price
Don't expect the sound of a Strad but it does actually play well if you play well.
Be Careful! December 7, 2009 V. Slesarev I bought this violin in hopes of a having decent beginner's product...maybe to last a year or more. However, upon close inspection of the violin, I noticed some fatal design flaws. Not only did my violin have less than acceptable measurements (i.e. fingerboard projection, height of bridge to E/G strings)- which I can't blame on the manufacturer due to the price- but the sound post was BENT and poorly attached. Not a little bent, but SEVERELY crooked- I would guess close to a 10-15 degree angle- which is, needless to say, not acceptable. I may have just gotten a lemon, but this renders my particular violin a short-term instrument, or as I would put it, a waste of money. A beginner may not notice the differences in tone/sound (particularly wolf tones) a violin with a bent sound post produces, but I assure you, any bystander would (and there is a serious risk of the violin breaking). I understand this is a budget instrument, but if all these violins come so shabbily built, a serious beginning player is FAR better off monetarily by purchasing a decent student instrument in the $150-$200 range; sending a $50 violin to get adjusted is silly. I invite the manufacturer to comment; and to everyone else- don't make my mistake- learning to play violin/fiddle is a serious commitment necessitating a serious investment in a quality instrument. Try to buy at a shop where you can inspect the damn thing!
I got what i paid for October 8, 2009 Zachary Reddick with this being a 50 dollar violin, i didnt expect any ting spectacular. the violin looks great with the exception of the nobs for the fine tuners two of them have a little rust but that is an easy fix, i am not sure how wel tuned i have it, but it sounds great for me. this will make a fine starter violin for me, because i am just playing around and am not sure if i will still be interested in a while or not. this also came promptly, it was expected on friday i got it on thursday which was nice.
Not was was expected. March 29, 2009 Samantha Potts (Corpus Christi) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The pegs won't stick, and every time I try to tune it, it just untunes. Then if I keep trying at it, the strings bust. I had it checked out at my local music store, and I had to pay an extra $75 just to get it in playable condition. If you're serious about violin, consult your music store for better quality instruments.. this one isn't worth it. Two stars for looking nice.
My new friend August 26, 2008 A. Rodrigues (NJ) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I bought this Violin a few days ago and already received it. The bridge was easy to install, and tuning is a process. I am just learning and even with the tuning half done it sounds wonderful already. I only had a few pet peeves. Unlike the picture in a similar product page from this seller, my case did not come with the cloth. Also, the delivery people (not sure if it was ups??) beat the heck out of the box. The rosin came in pieces and the strings were everywhere including one having a kink due to rough handling. The violin itself is very pretty and sounds better then i ever thought. Now all i need is a cloth and rosin and i'm good to go. Tuning is a bit difficult though so i'm spending an extra $3-$5 to have a music store tune it for me. I bought the Violin for dummies book and it's helping me a lot. i was even able to play several notes...even though i don't know how to read music.
